Our Biodiversity Strategy
Fortescue’s Biodiversity Strategy outlines how we integrate biodiversity considerations across the lifecycle of our operations and projects, from early planning and design through to operations, rehabilitation and closure. It supports our commitment to work towards a net positive impact on biodiversity by 2030 and is underpinned by our Environment Policy and Biodiversity Standard, governance processes and collaboration with key stakeholders. Our Strategy is structured around four pillars: biodiversity in design and decision making; protect, maintain and enhance ecosystems; biodiversity knowledge generation; and rehabilitation and restoration excellence.
Our Water Strategy
Fortescue’s approach to water management is guided by a strategy grounded in our Water Policy and Water Management Standard. The strategy focuses on the principles of sourcing water responsibly, maximising water efficiency, minimising adverse impacts, stewarding water as a shared resource and implementing robust governance. These principles ensure that water stewardship is integrated into Fortescue’s operations, from planning and design to execution and monitoring.
Our Mine Planning Strategy
Fortescue’s mine planning strategy balances resource extraction with environmental and social responsibility. It focuses on efficient resource use, integrating sustainability, managing tailings, waste and closure risks, and using collaboration and innovation to improve outcomes. This strategy is supported by comprehensive policies, such as the Tailings Management Policy and Environment Policy, and site-specific management plans and guidelines that ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.
